Japans Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced Monday that he plans to visit the United States later this month for a summit with President Trump. Among the issues to be discussed are their policies regarding North Korea. Abe has also stressed the need to keep applying “maximum pressure on the North until it takes verifiable and irreversible steps to completely abandon its nuclear and missile programs.”
The Japanese leader has also vowed to ask for US help in resolving the abductions of Japanese nationals by the North Koreans in the 1970’s and 80’s. He told Asian media that the abduction issue is a “top priority” and pledged to resolve it through cooperation with the US and South Korea.
The summit is set to take place between April 17 the 20th for two days.
