Thursday the British Supreme Court denied the parents of Charlie Gard permission to appeal, saying “that the child’s best interests must prevail.” according to ITV/ITN News London.
His parents Chris and Connie wanted to take him to America for an experimental treatment. But doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where 10-month-old Charlie is in intensive care, believe “that he is so unwell his life support should be switched off.”
Charlie’s case has been in the hand of the UK courts for the past four months, and a High Court judge had already ruled that his life support should be switched off. (See Story Socialized Medicine may take life of Nine month old baby boy in the United Kingdom!)
Charlie’s parents are now deciding whether to take the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
